Do you know where this motivation to be green comes from ?
Costa Rica is model for environmental sustainability, with a zero degree carbon footprint as its objective for 2021.
A carbon offsetting tax is automatically levied on each journey to Costa Rica and the money collected is used to finance reforestation.
Objective: to limit deforestation and to prevent the sale of plots of tropical forests to large international consortia.
The government is committed to encouraging the use of bio-fuels for public transport, the development of cycling, and recycling of rubbish etc.
Costa Rica is already a pioneer of eco-tourism. It has disbanded the army and re-invested the money saved in the protection of its very rich local bio-diversity projects. This small Central American state has understood that it can benefit more from sustainable tourism rather than mass tourism which is profitable in the short term but destructive in the long term.
