Visit the Marais Poitevin by boat !

In order to travel around the Marais, before the arrival of trains and roads, the most popular form of transport was the punt. Guided by the pole (a long rod made of willow) it was used to carry people as well as the cattle that the peasants put out to graze on the pastureland surrounded by water. Nowadays the punts are used almost uniquely to transport the tourists.

The canals are well signposted. Wooden posts with signs on top indicate the name of the waterway as well as a reference code composed of a letter and number which allows you to find your bearings immediately on the maps.
